Ok, another rant. So there is the hole in my car. I found it on Tuesday morning. Landscapers come on Mondays with their big industrial mowers. After this last Monday, I find big chunks of cement laying close to the carport. Hmmmmm, I suddenly realized that this is what happened to my car. I start looking at the chunks of cement and find a rock that makes the perfect fit to the hole on the car. I call housing. They tell me it's never happened before, but they will send out a rep from the landscaping company they use. He showed up and I explained to him the situation and even showed him the rock that was by the car. This guy already had his mind made up that this was not their fault before he even saw the car. He said that if that happened, their mower would have noticed and stopped. Ok, never mind these guys have ear protectors and are traveling at high speeds here and there looking forward the whole time. He would have NOT noticed.
Anyway, they said they are not covering the damage ($400 dollars and I have a $500 deductible). I call Jag, they say to call household claims. I talk to household claims and they told me to deal with the landscaping company because it's not the governments fault because it was contracted out. So I've come full circle.
To add insult to injury. When the insurance adjuster from USAA came and did a second estimate the guy asked why I chose to have such a high comprehensive deductible. I honestly don't remember choosing a $500 deductible maybe because that's what our collision is, anyway. So after he left, I looked at my policy online and found that if I choose $0 deductible for comprehensive, it only raised my premium $14 for the year. So had I done this last month, the entire repair would have been covered and my insurance for the month would have increased by $1.16. Why must I learn things the hard way.
Here is hoping for a better weekend.

I still say make the gardening company pay. Keep saying "what is your supervisor's name?" until someone gives you the answer that you want. The guy who came to your house is probably all proud of himself for the power he wields. . .call the office and talk to a supervisor. Tell them that you are going to file a written complaint with the housing office, the JAG office, and the garrison commander's office and that you are also going to find out when their contract expires, and make sure that you REFILE your complaints when it is time to renew the contracts. Oh, also, ask for the spelling of people's names. As soon as they answer the phone, say "What did you say your name was? Can you spell that please?" Be sure that they know you are writing it down. . .it makes people WAY NICER. Good luck.
I agree. I would keep on the trail because at some point, they will realize that it's easier to fix your car than to face all of the associated things you could do. :) Thanks for the info on the insurance. I'm convinced that this is how insurance companies make money...they would NEVER tell you that for $1 a month you could have all of your damages fixed for free. Argh.
