Not Fair

This is just a quick rant. R has been on three, year long deployments, in the last five years. In the Army, you earn so many days of leave (vacation) per month. The other day I took a look at our LES (pay statement) and noticed that he has 15 days of "use it or lose it" leave because he has too much leave time saved up. From what I can understand, he's losing 1.5 days a month of leave time because he has not taken it for so long.

WELL WHY HAS HE NOT TAKEN IT???????????????
BECAUSE HE'S BEEN DEPLOYED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has not been our choice to not take his vacation time, believe me, we certainly would take whatever, whenever we could. Do the people who make these decisions know what a day of vacation means to a family who has been separated for over a year??? Obviously not since this is the policy.

It's so wrong for this to happen. I don't quite understand how someone could make this policy, it's extremely unfair. Soldiers earn this leave time when they serve and now because they are serving overseas and are unable to use this vacation time, it's being taken away and Soldiers are not even paid compensation for it.

Ok, rant over

Check with someone still in the army but Jason is pretty sure that he is really now going to loset hem, they have exceptions to policy for that:)

Yeah--check into that. I think the rule is that use or lose is put on hold while deployed. I knew someone who had to take 3 months of leave because he had so much saved up from deployments.

S says that you get to keep the use or lose leave for something like 2 years after return from deployment. I think it is still listed on the LES as "use or lose" but you still get to keep it.
